Vivanta Goa, Panaji

Built in 1605, this UNESCO World Heritage Site holds the relics of St Francis Xavier and is considered one of the seven wonders of Portuguese origin. The church has an ornamented entrance and a gilded altar with wonderful carvings. The marble floor is inlaid with precious stones, and there is a modern art gallery with paintings of scenes from the Bible. 

Basilica of Bom Jesus

Located in Old Goa, this16th-century relic stands as a testament to Goa's rich history. The four-storey tower is all that remains of the once-magnificent St. Augustine's Church. Built by the Augustinian friars in 1602, it offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Intricate stonework and ornate arches elevate it to the top things to do in Panaji.

Also known as Gasper Dias Beach, the name of the beach is derived from the word 'Miramar', which means 'viewing the sea' in Portuguese. It is known as one of the cleanest beaches in Goa, ideal for a sunset walk. Other activities here include fishing, bird watching, scuba diving and water surfing. Swimming in the sea here is not safe because of strong undercurrents.

Experience the spiritual essence of Goa at the magnificent Mangeshi Temple, a 400-year-old shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located in Priol, Ponda, this ancient temple is a stunning example of Goan architecture, blending Hindu and Portuguese influences. Adorned with intricate carvings, beautiful murals and a Nandi bull, it is a remarkable sight. The temple's tranquil atmosphere, coupled with the calm surroundings, makes it an ideal destination for those seeking spiritual solace. 

Mangeshi Temple

Located on the banks of the Mandovi, Reis Magos Fort was constructed in 1551 by the Portuguese to serve as a turret. Once a mighty defense bastion, it was later converted into a jail. Among many nuggets of history, you’ll discover a room with floor holes through which soldiers allegedly poured hot oil on attackers.

A 17th-century Portuguese stronghold that stands sentinel over the Arabian Sea, Aguada Fort is located on the scenic Sinquerim beach in North Goa. This magnificent fortress is testament to the region's rich history and architectural heritage. Its impressive structure, towering walls, moat and four-storey lighthouse is a sight to behold.

Dedicated to narrating the stories of Goa’s past, present and future through art, the Museum of Goa (MOG) is a contemporary art institution that combines culture, art and storytelling to foster conversations and appreciation for the arts. Their workshops, events, lectures, talks and guided art tours are among the most enriching, unique things to do in Goa.

One of the oldest and most beautiful heritage homes in Goa, this17th century Portuguese mansion was built by the Braganza family on land granted by the King of Portugal. Its West Wing has gorgeous Belgian glass chandeliers, Italian marble floors and antique treasures from around the world. The highlight of the East Wing is a small chapel, which contains a carefully hidden fingernail of St Francis Xavier. There are no set tour times; a family member or local is usually available to show you around. 

Menezes Braganca House

This museum and theme park in the charming village of Loutolim is one of the most unique places to see in South Goa. It is a treasure trove of artifacts, exhibits and interactive displays that reveal the state's history, traditions and customs. Its open-air setting offers an immersive journey into the rural lifestyle and cultural traditions of Goa from over a century ago.
