Vivanta Sikkim, Pakyong

Considered one of the oldest monasteries in Sikkim, Kartok Monastery follows the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. Located near Kartok Lake in the picturesque village of Yuksom, the monastery offers tranquil surroundings, scenic valley views and a peaceful glimpse into Sikkim’s spiritual heritage.

Considered the sixth oldest in Sikkim, this monastery follows the Nyingma order of Tibetan Buddhism. Its location opposite Kartok Lake in the small but picturesque village of Yuksom ensures spectacular views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. A visit here is one of the many things to see in Sikkim that highlights its spiritual legacy. 

Kartok Monastery

Rumtek Monastery, also known as the Dharmachakra Centre, is one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Sikkim and serves as the seat of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. Renowned for its striking 
architecture, intricate murals and serene surroundings, the monastery also features beautiful gardens and a museum showcasing valuable Buddhist artefacts.

Also known as the Dharmachakra Centre, Rumtek, one of the largest and most significant monasteries in Sikkim, serves as the seat of the Kagyu sect of Tibetan Buddhism. It showcases stunning architecture, intricate murals and a golden stupa containing relics of the 16th Karmapa (head of the oldest reincarnate lineage of Tibetan Buddhism). Explore the lush gardens and a small museum displaying Buddhist artifacts at this serene destination. 

Rumtek Monastery

Surrounded by lush oak, magnolia and pine forests, the Namgyal Institute of Tibetology is renowned for its extensive research on Tibetan culture and Mahayana Buddhism. The museum houses a remarkable collection 
of rare manuscripts, thangkas, Buddhist artefacts and historical treasures, offering visitors a fascinating insight into the region’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage.

Surrounded by a luxuriant forest of oak, magnolia, and pine trees, this prestigious institute is renowned for its extensive research on the Mahayana sect of Buddhism and Tibetan culture, with a library housing one of the biggest collections of Tibetan writings outside of Tibet. Browse through the museum’s collection of rare manuscripts, Buddhist artifacts, thangkas (scroll paintings), human thigh bone trumpets and a kapala – bowl made of a human skull. One of the most prominent items here is the majestic image of Manjushree (bodhisattva of knowledge and wisdom) brought all the way from Tibet. 

Namgyal Institute of Tibetology

Built in 1945 by Trulshik Rinpoche, Do Drul Chorten is one of Sikkim’s most revered stupas and an important centre of Buddhist spirituality. Surrounded by 108 prayer wheels inscribed with sacred mantras, the peaceful ambience of the monastery makes it an ideal place for quiet reflection and cultural exploration.


The Do Drul Chorten is one of the most significant stupas in Sikkim, built in 1945 by Trulshik Rinpoche. It is surrounded by 108 prayer wheels inscribed with Buddhist mantras. The serene ambiance of the stupa makes it an excellent place for meditation and reflection.

The Gangtok Ropeway offers breathtaking aerial views of the valley, the city and the majestic Kanchenjunga range. Stretching across approximately 2 kilometres, the cable car ride provides a memorable perspective of Gangtok’s scenic landscape and vibrant hillside surroundings.

Usuаlly, the саble саrs аre full, аnd yоu hаve tо wаit in line fоr yоur turn, but the stunning views оf the Kаnсhenjungа рeаks are wоrth the wаit.  

Gangtok Ropeway

Tashi View Point offers spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding 
mountains, valleys and the city of Gangtok. Renowned for its breathtaking sunrise and sunset vistas, the viewpoint provides stunning sights of the Kanchenjunga and Siniolchu peaks, along with glimpses of the monasteries of Phodong and Labrang nestled amidst the hills.


This charming little Tashi View Point is a perfect place to witness the brilliant surroundings like mountains, valleys and Gangtok itself. This famous tourist spot is located at a distance of 8 km from the town and is mostly known for offering some of the best sunrise and sunset views. You can witness the changing colours of the Kanchenjunga and Siniolchu Peaks as the sun slowly moves from this viewpoint, along with the glimpse of the famous monasteries of Gangtok, Phodong and Labrang.

Tashi View Point

Perched at an altitude of 14,140 feet along the historic Silk Route, Nathu La Pass is one of the most scenic mountain passes in the Himalayas, connecting India with Tibet. Surrounded by snow-clad peaks, winding 
roads and dramatic landscapes, the journey itself is as memorable as the destination, offering stunning panoramic views and glimpses of the region’s unique alpine beauty.


Perched at an altitude of 14,140 feet on the old Silk Route, this historic and scenic mountain pass connects India with Tibet. Visitors can experience the Indo-China border with soldiers from both sides patrolling their respective territories. The pass offers breathtaking views of snow-clad peaks, serene valleys, and winding roads. The journey to Nathu La is equally enthralling, with opportunities to spot local flora and fauna along the way.  

Nathu La Pass

Situated at an altitude of 12,310 feet, the sacred glacial Tsomgo Lake is surrounded by snow-covered mountains and breathtaking alpine scenery. Its crystal-clear waters reflect changing shades of blue throughout the year, creating a truly mesmerising sight. Visitors can enjoy yak rides, photography and seasonal rhododendron blooms, while winter transforms the lake into a serene frozen wonderland.

Gangtok to Tsomgo Lake is around 39 kilometres and is located at an altitude of 12,400 ft. from the sea level. Gangtok to Baba Mandir distance is around 53 kilometres and located at an altitude of 13,000 ft. from the sea level. Tsomgo Lake and Baba Mandir are located on the same route and direction. Tsomgo Lake to Baba Mandir Distance around 14 kilometres. Located at an altitude of 12,310 feet, this glacial, sacred lake is surrounded by snow-covered mountains and reflects stunning shades of blue throughout the year. You can take a yak ride, indulge in photography and enjoy the views of the blooming rhododendrons in spring. During winter, the frozen lake offers a surreal experience.

Tsomgo Lake

India’s first glass skywalk leads visitors to the magnificent 42-metre statue of Bodhisattva Chenrezig, set amidst the Himalayan landscape at an altitude of 2,195 metres above sea level. Lined with golden prayer wheels, the glass-bottomed walkway offers a unique spiritual and scenic experience with breathtaking mountain views.


India’s first glass skywalk leads up to the 42-metre-tall statue of Bodhisattva Chenrezig, the tallest Chenrezig statue in the world.  The glass-bottomed skywalk is situated at a height of 2,195 metres above sea level, nestled in the Himalayas. There are golden prayer wheels on both sides of the stairs.
