Vivanta Old Port Road, Mangalore

Spread across 370 acres, this eco-educational and tourism park is located on the banks of  Gurupura River. It is designed to showcase the cultural heritage and natural wonders of Dakshina (South) Karnataka. The destination has a heritage village, zoo, artisans’ village, golf course, amusement park, lake garden, arboretum, science centre and Asia’s first 3D planetarium. 

Pilikula Nisargadhama

Located within Pilikula Nisargadhama, this 150-acre zoo is known for 400 animal residents in naturalistic enclosures. An ideal family destination in Mangalore, the expansive park offers a blend of education, recreation and conservation. From the Royal Bengal Tiger (the word Pilikula translated to ‘Tiger Pond’ in Tulu language) and Asiatic Lion to vibrant bird species, the zoo provides visitors with a close-up view of India’s rich biodiversity. 

Pilikula Biological Park

A trip to coastal Karnataka’s biggest amusement and water park, located within Pilikula Nisargadhama, is one of the most exciting things to do in Mangalore. It offers water slides, wave pools, children’s play areas, a large restaurant and landscaped gardens that are ideal for a picnic. Don't miss out on the giant wheel, which contains 18 gondolas and can accommodate up to 48 people at a time. Dhoom Bike Ride, a 6-seater merry-go-round game is very popular for children aged 5 to 10. 

Manasa Amusement Park

This art centre and museum is a beautiful example of Mangalore’s guthu mane (traditional mansions of the local, prosperous Bunt landowner community) Admire the magnificent features like maalige (upper floor level) jaal (verandah), garden with a well and chavadi (exquisitely decorated drawing room). A small part of the hebbagilu (thatched entrance building) is used by INTACH as their Mangalore chapter office.The centre is a must-visit place in Mangalore for art lovers. 

Kodialguthu Centre for Art & Culture

The first 3D planetarium in India, this city landmark is equipped with a hybrid projection system. It offers an engaging experience that blends education with cutting-edge technology. Visitors are drawn to its 3D shows about space exploration, interactive displays explaining complex astronomical concepts, science exhibitions and educational activities. 

Swami Vivekananda Planetarium

Located in the heart of the city on Lighthouse Hill.  this beautiful Christian chapel was built in 1880 by Jesuit missionaries. Its interiors were painted by Antonio Moscheni during the Mangalore Mission in 1878, when Italian Jesuits played an important role in education, health and social welfare of the Mangalorean Catholic community.  Magnificent paintings depicting Biblical images cover every inch of the walls and ceiling of this famous monument.  

St. Aloysius College Chapel

Considered to be one of the oldest temples in South India, this serene temple is dedicated to Lord Manjunath, a form of Shiva. There are major celebrations here during the Mahashivaratri festival in February. It is also at the centre of the Kadri Kambala annual festival involving thrilling rural buffalo races in front of huge crowds of spectators.

Mangalore derives its name from this temple’s ruling deity, Goddess Mangalapura. Amongst the many rituals that devotees undertake here is the Mangaladhara Vrata, a fast by young girls to find a husband. Popular festivals include Durga Pooja celebrations and Dodda Rathotsava, during which the goddess is carried around the temple in a big chariot.

One of the best sunset spots and best beaches in Mangalore, Tannirbhavi is located in a place called Panambur and is known for its tranquil atmosphere. Surrounded by lush green palm groves, it offers several water sports facilities, including surfing and jet skiing. The 15-acre Tannirbhavi Tree Park nearby is home to several plant species along with a children’s play area and local art and culture exhibits.

This hidden gem is a group of four islands - Coconut Island, North Island, South Island and Daryabahadurgarh Island - near the port of Malpe. It has a historical significance as the place where Vasco da Gama first set foot in India. The shoreline made up of a unique geological formation of crystalline rocks which were created at the time Madagascar Island got separated from India. Just standing on the rocks or collecting seashells here offers an enchanting experience.  

St. Mary's Isles, Malpe

Known as Saavira Kambada Basadi, this temple was built in was built in 1430 near Moodabidrii, dedicated to Chandraprabha, the 8th Jain Tirthankar (spiritual leader). The highlight of the three-story granite construction are the exquisitely carved pillars, which stand atop mandapas, each telling a distinct story from the past. It is said that no two pillars are alike in this temple.
