Vivanta Guwahati

Perched on Nilachal Hill, Kamakhya is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in India and is one of the 51 shakti peethas. The  complex consists of many small temples dedicated to Mahadivyas of Shaktism. Intricate architecture and unique rituals that elevate it to the top of places to visit in Guwahati. 

Kamakhya Temple

This revered temple is located on Peacock Island, the smallest inhabited river islet in the middle of the mighty Brahmaputra. Culture and architecture enthusiasts can admire the 16th century temple’s sculptures and carvings, though they were partially destroyed in the 1897 earthquake and later rebuilt. Offering scenic river views and local legends, this is one of the most picturesque places to see in Guwahati. 

Umananda Temple

Take a deep dive into Assamese culture at one of the oldest museums in Northeast India, which showcases art, crafts and natural history exhibits. The galleries have a curated selection of stone sculptures from the 5th to 12th centuries, palm-leaf manuscripts, textiles and  tribal artefacts from across the region. Located in the heart of the city, it is a must-visit stop on the perfect Guwahati itinerary. 

Assam State Museum

Set along the riverbank, this park offers manicured lawns, sculptures and open-air spaces. There is an activity area, a musical foundation, and concrete sculptures displaying various dance forms of Northeast India, including Bihu, Bor Taal, Ojapali and Deodhani. Perfect for a relaxed stroll or watching a local artist perform, it is one of the best family-friendly attractions in Guwahati. 

Nehru Park

This serene sanctuary presents a beguiling mix of mythology, culture and spirituality. The temple complex sits on Sandhyachal Hill near the lush Garbhanga Reserved Forest, offering gorgeous views of the region. The temple is associated with the legend of Sage Basistha, inviting visitors to meditate and seek serenity.
