Vivanta Coimbatore

Perched on a hill, this abode of Lord Murugan (also known as Kartikeya, the elder son of Shiva and Parvati) is one of the most famous temples in Tamil Nadu. Visitors have to climb a long flight of steps for stunning valley views. The area is renowned for medicinal herbs used in making ayurvedic medicines. Nearby attractions include Thaan Thondri Vinaayakar, a temple dedicated to Lord Murugan’s younger brother, Ganesha, and a cave temple where a saint believed to have supernatural powers lived. 

Marudhamalai Temple

This natural history museum is one of the most unique places to visit in Coimbatore. Located in the Forest College campus, it offers a treat for  taxidermy enthusiasts and those interested in tribal artifacts. On display are timbre, wood crafts, arms and well-preserved relics of wild and domestic animals.

Gass Forest Museum

Among the best things to do in Coimbatore for nature lovers and botanists is a walk around this lush garden located Inside the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University. It has over 2000 plant species in a 300-acre space, offering a peaceful retreat. There is a rose garden, orchidarium, lotus pond, lake, playgrounds for children, dining areas with barbecue facilities and outdoor areas for yoga or meditation. The park also has a library and museum. 

TNAU Botanical Garden 

Dedicated to Lord Ganesha, this temple is built in the Dravidian style of architecture with a tall, layered spire and carvings of Hindu gods, goddesses and other motifs. Its main attraction is the Ganapathi Homam held everyday at 5.30 am. Devotees can also participate in the chariot procession that happens at 7.00 pm daily. The temple hosts its daily ‘Annadana’ (free lunch), open to all visitors. 

Eachanari Vinayagar Temple

This picturesque lake is one of the most serene pitstops on your Coimbatore tour. Revived by strong citizen conservation efforts, it is one of the finest destinations for birders and photographers to spot over 125 species of resident and migratory birds, including Pallas Gull, Cormorants, Red-Necked Phalarope and Asian Palm Swift. The area around the lake is visited by butterfly species like Common Mormon, Joker Butterfly, Glassy Tiger and Plain Tiger. From walking to birding and picnicking, this spot is irresistible. 

Singanallur Lake 

This vintage car museum was set up by G.D Naidu, a local industrialist and philanthropist. The collection of classic and racing cars from around the world, including the royal families of India, is extensive and very well maintained. Alongside a Benz Motorwagen, Morris Cowley, Austin 7, BMW Isetta 250, Peugeot 203, Cadillac Limousine and many more, there is also an original Burma Shell petrol pump in  working condition. A visit to this museum is one of the most unique experiences in Coimbatore for motorheads. 

Gedee Car Museum

Located in Isha Yoga Centre, the imposing 45-metres-tall steel bust of Shiva is acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the largest bust sculpture in the world. Weighing approximately 500 tonnes, it represents the 112 chances for achieving nirvana (moksha) outlined in yogic culture. The Adiyogi Divya Darshanam, a 14-minute 3D laser light and sound show narrates the story of Adiyogi and the science of yoga, at 7.00 pm every day. 

Adiyogi Shiva Statue 

Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this ancient temple was constructed during the Chola dynasty. A masterpiece of Dravidian architecture, it features tall gopurams (ornate entrance towers), detailed carving, a sacred tank (kundam) and colorful paintings depicting Hindu mythological scenes. Various rituals/pujas and festive celebrations like Panguni Uthiram and Mahashivaratri, make it one of the most spiritual places to visit in Coimbatore.
