Vivanta Ahmedabad, SG Highway

Formerly known as Satyagraha Ashram, the residence of Mahatma Gandhi has witnessed crucial events in India’s freedom struggle, including the start of the Dandi March. Within the 36-acre grounds, visit the Hridaya (Heart) Kunj to see Gandhiji’s personal writing desk, letters and a yarn spun by him, and Gandhi Sangrahalay (Museum) which has a library, two photo-galleries and an auditorium.

Sabarmati Ashram

The spectacular Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan is renowned for its architecture, intricate carvings and spiritual ambiance. It features a central dome and offers an environment for meditation and devotion. Akshardham is also known for its cultural exhibitions, including an enchanting light show called Sat-Chit-Anand that combines storytelling, fireballs, fountain animations, multicolour lasers, huge water screen projections and music for one of the best spiritual experiences in Ahmedabad. 

Akshardham Temple

Famed for its exquisite, spider-web-like jali (latticed) windows depicting the intricate intertwining branches of the ‘tree of life’, the mosque was built in the period 1572–73 AD by Sidi Sayed. Its central arch is bereft of the intricate latticework, making your eyes go straight to the main stunning work at the back wall. The mosque is a prime example of Indo-Saracenic architecture and is a significant cultural and architectural landmark in the city. 

Sidi Saiyyed Mosque

This artificial lake, built in the 15th century by Sultan Qutb-ud-Din, is one of the best places to see in Ahmedabad. It is surrounded by a promenade and features various attractions, including a zoo, a toy train, a water park and boat rides. The lake is a vibrant hub for families and tourists, offering a calm atmosphere for relaxation and entertainment

Kankaria Lake

Built in 1423, one of India’s most beautiful mosques displays an architectural blend of Hindu and Jain influences within a massive tranquil courtyard. Constructed as part of a larger design of the city, it lies south of the processional axis that runs from the Maidan-i Shah with three arches called Teen Darwaza in the old city. The prayer hall’s 260 columns support 15 principal domes at different elevations. 

Jama Masjid

This 15th-century vav (stepwell) will leave you awestruck with its Indo-Islamic architecture and intricately carved pillars supporting five storeys. Some of the mythological carvings include ami khumbor (a pot containing the water of life) and the kalp vriksha (tree of life) carved out of a single slab of stone. There is a belief that the small frieze of Navagraha (nine-planets) towards the edge of the well protects the monument from bad omens. Constructed in 1499 by Queen Rudabai, the stepwell served as a resting place for travellers and a source of water during the region's arid periods.

It features a range of exhibits, including an IMAX theater, an energy park, a robotic park and hands-on displays on topics like space, human anatomy and environmental conservation.
